well designed bagOct 28, 2006
By Liforce This is a well designed bag, obviously well thought out - and with travel specifically in mind, which is hard to find sometimes.
The layout of the various pockets is convenient and purposeful. It is a very roomy bag even without the expansion. Expanding the bag turns it into a nice looking and functional backpack. Even in its expanded form, this bag has passed as a personal item for me when flying. Unexpanded, it fits very easily under a plane seat, and with a little coercion, it will fit under a plane seat even when expanded.
The straps and back are adequately padded, and the straps have a mesh lining for ventilation. The straps tuck away neatly and the bag has a nice professional look as a shoulder bag. The backside of the interior compartment also has a sleeve for papers, magazines, or a laptop.
I use the bag to commute to work. My purse fits perfectly in the main compartment, and keys/phone/etc in the exterior pocket. The sunglasses pocket is a nice touch. I find it useful - just don't put anything terribly valuable in that spot since it is not secure.
Downsides:
1) As a previous reviewer mentioned, the bag is taller than it is wide, and the included shoulder strap only adjusts so far. I am 5'5" and with the shoulder strap fully shortened, I still cannot reach the bottom of the bag or the exterior pocket. This is annoying, but once I replace the strap it should not be a problem.
2) Another possible issue to consider is the weight of the fabric. It is quite heavy duty. This is good for durability and weather resistance (excellent so far), but not so good for weight.
3) Because of the size of the bag, it's very easy to overfill and make it too heavy to carry comfortably as a shoulder bag. The upside is that you can pull out the backpack straps at any point in the day to give your shoulders a break. The backpack option is very comfortable.

counts as "small personal item" for airlinesAug 28, 2006

This strong, expandable bag has worked well for me. It even fits within the new London carry-on requirements in its unexpanded form. I have only used it as a "personal item" in its unexpanded form.
The shoulder bag aspect helps you blend in better with people who actually live where you are a tourist. And the backpack part help when you are fully loaded and walking for long distances.
I have used it as a "get around town" bag and it holds a bunch, even a slim laptop!
I'm not so big a fan of the logo, so I took a permanent marker and blacked that out.

Don't Trust the PictureOct 05, 2006
By Laura Shumar The angle of the picture makes it look like a messenger bag - it's not.
If you read the dimensions, you'll see it's more like a messenger bag turned on its side. This makes it very awkward for a short person (I'm 5'1") to carry.
Also, while the description promises "two mesh pockets," one of them is that decorative bit of mesh on the front flap.
I got rid of the bag I bought right away, but I'm still giving it 4 stars. Except for the "pocket," it's well-constructed and easy to organize. I turned it over to my boyfriend, who finds the backpack/bag conversion very handy for riding a bicycle then walking around. And it fits under an airplane seat, while still leaving room for feet. So as long as you're clear about what you're getting, it's a decent bag.

Amazingly UsefulJan 15, 2007
By Jeffrey S. Wright I picked one up in a travel store just as we were heading up to British Columbia on a driving holiday. I haven't put it down yet. Great for use as a "city bag" while shopping on vacation. I'm now using it instead of a briefcase (I'm a high school teacher)... very capable of holding bunches of my students papers (you just have to think 90 degrees differently). I particularly like the ease with which it slings over a shoulder, or can be lifted by it's handle.

Versatile Veloce BagJan 13, 2009

I originally bought this for my son, but ended up keeping it for myself. It is perfect for carrying around my laptop and various electronic components. All the stuff from my purse fits in the many compartments. It can be carried as a backpack, shoulder bag (my preference) or by the carrying handle. The only problem that I have is that there are so many compartments I can never remember where I put things... that is actually my fault and not the bag's. Although I have not used it this way, it is spacious enough to be used as a weekender. It is well constructed and very durable. I highly recommend it.
