A sturdy bag, though not without shortcomingsJan 24, 2009

I've owned my Trek Messenger for a little over a year now, and, save a tear on a mesh side pocket pocket, have been thrilled with its durability. Normally I'm lucky to get a year out of a laptop bag, high-end or bargain basement, they just seem to wear out particularly where the straps join the casing. Victorinox didn't skimp on the materials and it shows. Would recommend virtually everything they make (I also travel with several pieces of their luggage.)
The shortcomings? This may be a moot point for I believe newer models of the Trek Messengers are styled somewhat differently. For this bag a minor (though at times major) inconvenience is the lack of a zipper or other means of closing and securing the main compartment. For daily commuters this may not be an issue, but if you travel by plane and find yourself tossing the bag into an overhead compartment, well chances are you'll experience the frustration of things working their way out of the bag no matter the way you've placed it in the bin. The flap closure (while wonderful from an easy-access perspective) buckles and pooches allowing all manner of pens, keys, zip discs to become dislodged.
