Water Bottles Fit!May 21, 2010
By NeuronalContortionist I love this bag! Have had it for 2 years now. Used it as a casual purse and as a day-bag on a trip to Alaska.
The Overland Donner bag has 2 pockets on the sides which both snuggly but easily hold a .75 L Camelbak bottle. The mesh on the bottoms of the bottle pockets keeps the bag itself dry. The nylon material from which the bag is made is also quite water-resistant. The water-bottle pockets are the main reason I even used the bag as a casual purse for a year. Living in TX, it was nice not to have to leave my water in the car when I ran errands. Yes, it was heavier to carry the water but at least the water didn't burn when I returned to the car! :)
The pockets on the bag are well-placed. I like the back slip pocket for shopping lists, maps, etc. The back slip pocket is large enough for a .5"-thick 6x9" paperback. Not anything larger, tho. The front pockets are perfect for credit cards (drop-down zip pocket), cell phone, pens, tissue, and a few papers. The only hassle when shopping is that you have to open the velcro which holds up the drop-down pouch to access the other pockets. This means it really takes 2 hands to close it back up neatly. The inside pocket is large enough for quite a bit of stuff. It's just large enough to hold a day's essentials but not so large that the bag is cumbersome. Definitely well-sized. Especially for travel.
The only suggestion I have for Overland Equipment for future products is that they make a version of this with a more feminine facade and with the drop-down pouch problem solved so that the bag can be more easily used as a daily purse. I love the water bottle pockets and would so love to find a pretty purse with them. Otherwise and for travel, this bag is absolutely great! I highly recommend it - it's the best travel bag I've found yet!

They're not makin' 'em like they used toAug 25, 2010
By Susan G I had an Overland Equipment Donner bag a few years ago & loved it - attractive & functional. This new version is made of cheap looking, shiny nylon with an ugly silvery strap. It does not look quite like the photo - I sent it back.

Great bag for travelMar 14, 2010
By George B. White Took this bag on a whirlwind travel tour this year. Everything was so easily accessible. I absolutely love this bag! Perfect size. The water bottle pockets on each side are awesome. Used one for a water bottle and one for my sunglasses. This really is a fantastic bag to take on a trip. No rifling through the bottomless pit bag. I even found it hard to switch back to my more stylish purse when I got home.

Perfect for travelingMar 14, 2010
By M. Fay I got my Donner Bag to bring on vacation, and haven't stopped using it. Love the compartments and water bottle holders. I used one of the holders for my video camera, and even had room for my digital SLR in the main compartment along with the usual stuff. My only complaints: Strap is ridiculously slippery, so you must wear it cross-body or it constantly slides off. Could use a shoulder pad thing to help with comfort and stability. I wish the key holder was connected inside the main pocket instead of in the external flap-pocket. And the webbing on the bottom of the bottle holders is vulnerable to wear - one of mine is about to tear after about 3 months.
Overall - I love it. Would be perfect with a couple of tweaks!

Not Quite PerfectMar 18, 2009
By P. Hahn I bought this bag because I travel back and forth on the train to see my daughters and I wanted something that I didn't have to hold with my hands. While this does fit that part - it goes nicely over your head and shoulder leaving your hands free - it didn't quite meet all of my other needs. I had seen a similar bag on T.V. that supposedly holds everything, but after doing a bit of research, I found that it was a very small bag. That was when I came upon this one. It sounded perfect. But in reality, it, also, is kind of small, especially if you try to put water or soda bottles in each side pocket. But I like the pocket for my phone, and now I use one of the side pockets for my camera instead of a water bottle, so that is handy for me. I also like that the main compartment has a zipper so that no one can just reach in a hand and take my wallet. All in all, I guess that I am satisfied until I can find something better.
